News Update for February 2005
HUSKERLAND STATE TOURNAMENT
SCHEDULE BULLETIN !!!
Due circumstances beyond our control that created a scheduling conflict with
the UNK Sports Center, Huskerland 20 is forced to go to a one-day format. This
conflicts with information circulated via mail to the clubs, and found
previously on the web site.
The Huskerland tournament now will be conducted solely on Sunday April 10th,
2005, at UNK but with additional mats in the track area. The new schedule is:
Sunday April 10,2005
8am, all 3rd-4th grade wrestlers
11am, all 5th-6th grade wrestlers
2pm, all 7th-8th grade wrestlers
We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause some of you, but was found to
be the best option we had once the schedule problem was brought to our
attention. Nothing else has been changed and we hope you will accept our apology
and work with us on the new schedule for 2005. Thanks, Fred

Do we have your attention yet? Good. Lets get you up to date with what has
been done for the 2004-2005 season. The major change is just what is noted
above, no late entries. Extra high entry fees were found not to deter late
entries no matter how high we set them. That last week we needed to make
sure everything was done and prepared was spent adding entries and
changing brackets to the detriment of what was necessary. We’d like to ask
you to share this information with fellow directors. The last thing we
want to hear in April is that someone never got the information.
NO LATE ENTRIES for HUSKERLAND XX
We also decided it was time to hear from each of you as club directors.
While we see some of you during the year, a lot of you have little
face-to-face contact with the Huskerland board except at the tournament.
So we are setting aside up to an hour to meet with you on Saturday night
during the Huskerland Tournament. The Executive Board and as many other
board members as possible will hold an open meeting, or Q & A, with
directors and coaches. This meeting will begin 30 minutes after the start
of session 3 on Saturday. So bring questions and ideas, we will explain
our rationale and plans, then open it up for you.
NO LATE ENTRIES for HUSKERLAND XX
We keep repeating that phrase because we don’t want to see anyone left out
but found this major change necessary. You will find that most fees and
dues have not been changed for this year. Club dues are back to old levels
and no insurance program fees are included. We are working hard on an
insurance program that will be available to you if you want to
participate, but will not force you to join it. We must have a program to
use the Kearney facility and entrants must be insured to enter, but beyond
that each club is free to make their own decision.

information.
Another minor change deals with floor passes. Some clubs felt they were
issued to the club and could be passed around freely. That was not the
intent, so a wrist band will also be used in conjunction with the actual
pass. One of the real reasons for the floor pass concept was to cut down
floor congestion and make it easier for coaches to get to the mats to
coach their wrestlers. It has never been to make it impossible for coaches
to get on the floor or to make money. In fact we encourage you to pay for
the passes when you send in entries and save 80%.
The TTT award system has been eliminated. We felt most directors neither
wanted nor understood it. To go along with this, we are taking over
responsibility for tabulating club scoring. We are updating brackets on
site now anyway, so this is easy for us. The old policy put the burden on
you and while we would correct addition errors, plus or minus, if you
turned in score sheets, we would not recognize club scores if nothing was
turned in, EVEN IF your club actually scored high enough to win. This
should be a good change as every club will be scored. Of course you can
keep scores if you wish and make sure our score matches yours.

We’d encourage you to send in club dues as soon as practical to get it out
of the way. And again I’d encourage you to pay the club dues to save money
and help everyone. We’ve been amazed that some clubs don’t join but enter
enough wrestlers at higher non-member fees than the dues would have been.
With entry fees $10 higher for wrestlers from non-Huskerland clubs, just 4
entries are the break-even point.
Finally and importantly check the web site for updates periodically and
for contact persons in specific areas. At the same time make sure your
club information is correct and make any changes. For the most part the
website and mailings are our only way of communicating with you and it is
important that your information is up to date. If you know of incorrect
data on other clubs please make them and / or us aware so we can fix it.
