Huskerland
Summer Meeting June 26, 2005
In attendance were Fred Hall, Bobbi Hall, Darrell Jennings, Doug Denson,
Karen Hunt, Rusty Hunt, Tony Fulton, Steve Palmer and Tom Sawyer.
Tom Sawyer was approved as a new board member in appreciation of, and
for his help in developing the AutoBracket system to meet current and
future Huskerland needs. Bracketing was done for Huskerland 2005 with
only 4 people over about an 8-hour period where previously it took a
team of 8-10 persons from 8-10 hours, and we also realized a significant
decrease in problems. We agreed the benefits were directly due to using
AutoBracket.
The problems with medal presentation photos were discussed. While we
hate to discontinue having a podium presentation of medals it is
problematic to somehow get the placers to the stand. It has been decided
to make the podium available but the actual procedure will be finalized
at the late fall meeting. Should we present medals at the mats as was
the practice for the first 15 Huskerlands, have them at the stand and
hope all the winners find their way for medals, and hopefully as a group
for any parents wishing to take photos? It takes people and an
opportunity exists if any club(s) wish to step up and volunteer to take
charge of this.
The first year of using USA Wrestling as our carrier was discussed.
Everyone was pleased with how it is developing. Nebraska USA will be
coming up with a method to issue card numbers for provisional members.
The lack of a card number was the major problem since we could not
verify membership without one. It was felt club directors were very
honest sending in the extra $10 if their wrestlers did not already have
the USA card. Also it appears that Nebraska USA is on the verge of a
couple exciting new benefits for the 2006 season.
The board was not overly comfortable with how the matter of referee’s
payment for 2005. Rusty Hunt felt it best to continue to work with Chuck
on this and a solid plan encompassing a fair and acceptable pay schedule
will be presented at the next meeting.
While neither Jim Allen nor Rob Riedy were able to attend due summer
wrestling camps or competition, we hope to continue at Grand Island High
for the 2006 Huskerland Duals. Jim committed to again being in charge
and asked for the same staff as assisted in 2005. While we haven’t
talked to Rob or Mike Schadwinkel as reps for GI High, everyone is
looking forward to going back to a great facility.
The board members in attendance left open the possibility of nominations
of additional members if anyone had good candidates. The overriding
factors continue to be a desire to help with youth wrestling in the
state of Nebraska, and the commitment to be impartial with input of
decisions and to realize what is best for the majority even if not in
your own interest or the club you are affiliated with.
The fall meeting is tentatively scheduled for early November and for us
to return to Chances R in York. No definite date yet but I hope many of
you can make it.
